Recently, I had the pleasure of spending a weekend at the delightful Wingrove House in the heart of Alfriston, a charming village that truly encapsulates the essence of the South Downs. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and a welcome drink, setting the tone for a truly relaxing stay. Our room—Room 18—was a dream, with its super king size bed and original exposed wooden beams, creating a cozy yet elegant atmosphere. Breakfast was an absolute highlight, featuring a buffet of fresh fruit and warm croissants followed by a delicious hot menu. I couldn’t resist the vegetarian full English, complete with grilled halloumi—it was the perfect way to start a day of exploring! The restaurant’s terrace, overlooking the quaint parish church, offered a picturesque setting for dinner later in the evening, complete with candles and fairy lights that made the experience feel extra special. For those keen on outdoor activities like walking or cycling, Wingrove House serves as an ideal base, with many trails just a short stroll away. I highly recommend enjoying a chilled glass of wine in their tranquil garden, especially on a warm afternoon.
